Frequently Asked Questions
What is IEVC?
IEVC is an independently developed standards and verification framework for non-clinical virtual companionship. We define baseline ethical practices and provide training and verification pathways for people offering companionship within a clearly non-clinical scope.
What is the VEVC designation?
The Verified Ethical Virtual Companion (VEVC) designation is granted through IEVC to individuals who have completed training and verification aligned with IEVC standards, including boundaries, role clarity, privacy, professionalism, and safety-aware escalation.
Is the VEVC credential a therapy license or clinical certification?
No. The VEVC credential is not a clinical license and does not authorize diagnosis, treatment, or psychotherapy. Credential holders must clearly represent their role as non-clinical companionship.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must be 25 years of age or older and meet IEVC’s standards-based requirements. Verification is granted based on training completion and demonstrated alignment with IEVC ethical practices.
What is a “sponsoring organization”?
A sponsoring organization is a platform or organization the companion is affiliated with while practicing under VEVC standards. Sponsoring organizations provide context for accountability and ongoing alignment with non-clinical practice expectations. Sponsoring information must be kept current.
How can I verify someone’s VEVC credential?
Email vvcinstitute@gmail.com with the companion’s name and VEVC credential ID. Verification responses are provided within 2 business days.
How can I use the VEVC designation?
The Verified Ethical Virtual Companion (VEVC) designation shows you have completed IEVC verification and agree to uphold IEVC standards. You may use the designation on your resume, professional profiles, and personal website, and when applying to platforms or organizations that recognize IEVC verification.
